Have you ever stopped to think about what happens when you click `"`Send`"` on a WhatsApp message? Or when you press play on a YouTube video? It feels like magic. You tap a piece of glass in your hand, and milliseconds later, a friend on the other side of the world laughs at your joke.
But it isn’t magic—it’s computer networking. For most people, terms like “IP Address,” “Router,” and “LAN” sound like boring technical jargon. But understanding how a network works is simple. It’s just a digital version of passing a note to a friend.
At its simplest, a computer network is two or more computers connected together to share information.
Imagine you’re in a classroom. If you write a note and pass it to your friend, you have created a “human network.”
Computer networks work the exact same way. Whether it is a cable running between two laptops or a satellite beaming a signal to your phone, it is just a conversation between machines

Data transfer works like the postal service. When you visit a website, your computer sends a request—like sending a letter.

House vs World.
A LAN is like your house—devices close to each other connected privately and fast.
A WAN is like the world—connecting multiple LANs over long distances. The Internet is the largest WAN.
Computers use packet switching:

We live in a wireless world, but the internet is still mostly cables.
Wired (Ethernet)is like a train on a track. It is super fast, very reliable, and secure because the data is trapped inside a physical wire. Gamers and offices love this because it rarely lags
Wireless (Wi-Fi)is like a radio station. Your router has an antenna that broadcasts the internet as radio waves. Your phone has an antenna that catches them. It gives you the freedom to walk around, but the signal can get weak if you go too far or walk behind a thick concrete wall.
A firewall is like a security guard checking every data packet entering your network.
Computer networking might seem complex because of all the strange acronyms, but at its heart, it is simply about communication. It is the digital equivalent of writing letters, making phone calls, and sharing stories.
